The Way of Tea, The Way of Sex
by David Deida

Fire, water, leaf–in The Way of Tea, the elements are embraced and transformed in our heart’s depth, felt as awareness. From heart to hands, from hands to cup, from cup to lips, every step is deep, slow, conscious and graceful. This moment is complete as the cup is filled and emptied. In the movement of a tea session–heating, pouring, tasting–energy and nature are brought together in harmony and transformed through love. While cultivating skill, sensitivity, and discipline, we serve tea in gratitude, healing our soul through offering.

He-ing, she-ing, being–in The Way of Sex, awareness is tenderly separated from appearance while holding together in desire, two bodies entangled in unresolved love. Regardless of gender, he relaxes as the conscious one, while she appears, resists, surrenders, and plays as all. We embody this moment as polarity, the endless humor of sudden tussle, and no effort is made toward peace. His body rests already empty as the unborn. Her body dances already full as creation. Embracing in devotion, gazing into each other’s hearts, he knows nothing, she shows everything, as wild life shines already gone.

In Cha Dao, the one gives rise to two, the two to many, unified and transformed in the crucible of alchemical tranquility, served as loving-kindness. In Sex Dao, the many are embodied as two, the two know themselves as one, whispering hello to itself in revelation, two-bodied flowery combat offered as love’s yes.

For those leaning toward the harmony of wholeness, The Way of Tea. For those inclining toward the tango of opposition, The Way of Sex. Practiced fully, they are the same: nothing happens, everything moves, and this moment’s fullness dances empty, just as it is, as you.

Join us for a deep dive into the heart of authentic practice, and learn to do nothing as love drinks itself open, now.

About Wu De

Wu De - Global Tea Hut

Author and teacher Wu De has been a practitioner of Cha Dao (The Way of Tea) for over 20 years, and he has reached over 100,000 people through his books, writings, interviews and leading workshops and seminars around the world.

Upon graduating from university with a degree in anthropology and philosophy, Wu De lived and studied meditation in India, Burma, Thailand and eventually Japan. Working closely with his Zen teacher who often used Tea Ceremonies as a way of conveying Zen wisdom, his insights into The Way of Tea and the ability of tea to convey deep peace were strengthened.

After being ordained in the Soto Zen tradition, he began studying gongfu tea under Master Lin Ping Xiang in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from whom he learnt excellence and focus.

For the last decade, Wu De has been teaching the ancient practice of serving tea from a Zen and tea center in Taiwan, known as Tea Sage Hut (www.teasagehut.org). In the last three years, his monthly magazine and organic tea mailing, Global Tea Hut (www.globalteahut.org), has swelled to connect hundreds of tea lovers and spiritual seekers in over 30 countries. In the making is Light Meets Life, an unparalleled tea center in the mountains of Taiwan that will be open and freely host travelers and tea students from around the world.

His writings have appeared in The Art of Tea Magazine (of which he is the Senior Editor), The Leaf Magazine (a free, online magazine which he founded) and many more. He has also authored four books, including Tea Wisdom (Tuttle Publications, 2009), The Way of Tea (Tuttle Publications, 2010), Zen & Tea One Flavor (2013) and Tea Medicine (2014).

The Day’s Flow

Sunday, July 31, 2016, 9:00am-8:00pm PDT.

This will be an all day event with two master teachers sharing their practices:

The day will begin with Wu De’s imparting an intimate and profound tea ceremony as a prelude to his teachings of grace, awareness, and devotion that are pivotal to Cha Dao, The Way of Tea.

Following our morning session David Deida will enlighten us with his spiritual insights into true intimacy and open heartedness through The Way of Sex

Living and ancient teas will be flowing throughout the day for everyone’s inspiration and to bring presence and connectivity amongst all gathered.

We’ll close the evening with a fabulous musical act soon to be announced!
