How to write a resume for a nail technician
The beauty industry has become more accessible, and the demand for it has increased significantly. A qualified manicure and pedicure master is a rather demanded worker. Before starting the nail technician resume, it's worth deciding which narrative format is right for you:
Chronological - a description of work history in reverse chronological order, starting from the last place of work, is an opportunity to demonstrate career and professional growth in the required field of activity.
Functional - the main focus here is on professional skills and achievements in various fields of activity and not on the list of jobs. It is recommended to apply if you have no work experience or if you have "gaps" in your employment history.
Combined - combines the main features of a functional and chronological resume. It emphasizes professional skills and achievements in various fields of activity, while the main facts of the work biography are presented in reverse chronological order.
If you have decided on the format you need, let's start writing your resume.
Profile. A profile is the introductory part of a resume, the purpose of which is to give the reader an idea of who you are and what is special about you. Please note: a profile is a short story about you and your working life, but it is nohow a mini-biography. A successful profile of a nail technician provides the reader with reference points - a general view of you. These points can be raised later in the interview, at the stage of acquaintance.
There are three main elements to a profile:
First – information about your personal qualities that are not found in the rest of the resume (for example, commitment, attention to detail).
Second – you need to mention your skills.
Third – your profile should include any work experience suitable to the desired position.
Experience. This part requires special attention since the candidate for this position must have relevant experience in this area.
It is more difficult for beginners to find their place in the nail service than for experienced specialists. Not every employer is ready to train a novice master and risk his reputation in case of an inexperienced employee's mistakes. But the lack of experience should not be an obstacle to getting a job.
Knowledge and experience gained in courses and training on popular methods of processing, building, decorating nails will be a great advantage.
Remember to use strong action verbs and mention job accomplishments that prove you are the right candidate for this job.
Skills. In these points, you should write about the positive qualities and special knowledge that are in demand, but not always found among applicants. It is good if the information provided is as specific and concise as possible.
For example:
- manicure (European, American, Spanish, classic, wet, hot, spa-manicure, Japanese, aquarium, art manicure);
- pedicure (classic, hardware, combined, spa);
- strengthening of nails with bio gel;
- design with rhinestones;
- nail extension;
- covering of nails with gel varnish;
- alignment of the nail plate.
Personal qualities. The profession of a manicure master belongs to the category "Human-Human", as it involves communication during the work process. That is why sociability and goodwill are highly valued here. Also, the necessary qualities of a manicure master are:
- punctual;
- decent;
- observing of cleanliness and hygiene in the workplace and tools;
- attentive;
- energetic;
- hardworking;
- proactive;
Other qualities that are also appreciated in a good nail technician:
- perseverance (sometimes you have to create whole masterpieces);
- neatness (a very important quality, because you need to remove the cuticle, apply varnish and create a pattern very clearly, without spikes and streaks);
- creativity (the presence of fresh ideas is always welcomed by clients);
- commitment (your work is your business card, so you can also create a portfolio of works in addition to your resume).
Education. Here it is required to indicate such information as the date of the beginning and end of the training, the name of the educational institution, the specialty, and the degree of accreditation. An indication of additional education will also be a plus: passing courses, internships, and others.
Knowledge of foreign languages. The ability to communicate with foreigners can become an important competitive advantage in the labor market. Recruiting experts advise mentioning knowledge of foreign languages in your resume when applying for a job.
